  Mindfulness

Mindfulness meditation is a 2,500 year old practice that cultivates the capacity to develop and practice awareness of the present moment, even in very trying times and circumstances.

It
fosters an ability to observe each moment rather than judging, criticising or feeling the need to control it.  Paradoxically, this practice helps people feel more in control the more they learn to let go.

By learning to simply observe the breath and the constant flow of thoughts,
many people have found that they can begin to become more observant of their automatic thoughts and reactions and just let them be.

When people
become aware of the connection between what they think and how they feel, they can then begin to act in a clearer and more conscious way.  It is a way to embody sanity, clarity and harmony in the present moment.

Rather than reacting to life,
people learn to develop a freer attitude and a non-judgmental interest in every thing they experience.

Mindful awareness can cultivate a way of living that is
more balanced, open and content.

A calmer and more settled mind enables an individual to choose and act wisely.  This in turn can increase inner confidence and a perception of control.

Research has shown that mindfulness-based interventions may help to alleviate a variety of mental health problems and improve psychological functioning.

Mindfulness meditation can help:

  • Improve stress management and communication issues
  • Decrease anxiety and depression
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve concentration and creativity
  • Increase wellbeing and satisfaction with life
Mindfulness is never about doing something perfectly, because it is not about doing or accomplishing at all. It is about allowing things to be as they are, resting in awareness, and then, taking appropriate action when called for. Silence, deep listening, and non-doing are often very appropriate responses in particularly trying moments - not a turning away at all, but an opening toward things with clarity and good will, even toward ourselves. Out of that awareness, trustworthy skillful responses and actions can arise naturally, and surprise us with their creativity.
